Hamstead Heath

Yesterday was the first afternoon that we’ve had with quite a bit of sunshine rather than the usual misty rain.  A group of us were going to go to the British Museum, but decided instead to take advantage of the brief sunshine.  Sana and I took the London Overground from the flats to Hamstead Heath, about a 20-25 minute ride.

The Heath is a large park with scenic views, walking paths, fishing ponds, and even a kiddie pool and playground.  There is also a small place to grab a snack while enjoying the scenery.  From the top of Parliament Hill we could see the familiar buildings of the London skyline including the BT Tower, the Gherkin, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the newly built Shard.

Many people take their dogs for a walk in the park without leashes.  The dogs at the Heath are definitely a lot better behaved than mine! We met one particular dog who is known around the Heath as “Two Ball” Daisy.  Her owner even showed us how Daisy will kick the tennis ball like she’s playing soccer while still holding two of them in her mouth. She kindly sat and posed while I snapped her picture!

We walked around enjoying the fresh air and exploring the park a little longer before heading back to the flats. We came across the Stone of Free Speech which ironically didn't have any writing on it at all. As you can see, it was just a large white stone set away from the walking path. We also walked along a nice pond area too. It was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city without being to far out.
